UPS Announces New Surcharges
UPS has announced the introduction of two new surcharges related to shipment management, with the purpose of ensuring greater accuracy in the information provided by shippers and improving the service’s efficiency. The new charges will apply to domestic and international shipments.
1. Surcharge for Correction of Shipping Charges
- When it applies: the surcharge will be applied if the information initially provided of the package has a significant discrepancy with the actual data, such as 25% or more difference in the weight of the package.
- Cost: EUR 1.50 per shipment or the 8% of the total correct cost of the shipment, whichever is higher, will be applied.
- How it is calculated: UPS will compare the real weight of the package with the dimensional weight, and will use the higher one to calculate the final rate.
2. Surcharge for missing information on the package
- When it applies: if the sender does not provide all the necessary information prior to collection, such as the recipient’s full name, exact correct address, size and weight of the package.
- Cost: a surcharge of 4.00 euros will be applied for each package with incomplete data.
These new surcharges will be effective for all domestic and international shipments from September 30, 2024, and are intended to incentivize accurate and complete communication of the shipment information. In the event of discrepancies or missing information, the additional charges will help cover the efforts necessary to correct or complete missing details, thus ensuring optimal shipment management.
We encourage all customers to be careful when completing shipment information to avoid unnecessary charges and to ensure a smooth and efficient shipping process.
